EU launches rule-of-law process against Poland

The European Commission has decided to "launch a preliminary assessment under the rule of law framework" regarding the constitutional reform in Poland, commission vice-president Frans Timmermans i announced on Wednesday. The reform curtails the powers of the Constitutional Tribunal. Timmermans called on Poland to have a "constructive dialogue" with the commission.
