A EU directive on energy efficiency, a regulation on transmission infrastructure and conclusions on strengthening the external dimension of the European Union’s energy policy are the main topics on the agenda of the upcoming Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (TTE). The meeting of energy ministers from Member States is scheduled to take place in Brussels on 24th November. The Council session will be chaired by Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Waldemar Pawlak.

The agenda includes the Polish Presidency’s report on the work performed in recent months on a proposed directive concerning energy efficiency. The directive is intended to enhance the implementation of the EU’s energy policy to 2020, with the target of boosting energy efficiency by 20 per cent within that period.

The participants will also examine a draft regulation concerning energy infrastructure. It is designed to create favourable conditions for the development of energy infrastructure leading in turn to better security of supply and transition to low-carbon economy as well as completion of the creation of the internal energy market.

The Council also intends to adopt conclusions on the strengthening of the external dimension of the EU energy policy - one of the priorities of the Polish Presidency. The conclusions will incorporate the Council’s position regarding a document published by the European Commission in October on the security of energy supply and international cooperation in the energy sector.
