The future of European universities, the role of research and science in the process of overcoming the financial crisis, supporting the careers of young scientists and bolstering mobility in science — such are the topics due to be discussed in Sopot on 20th July at the Intellectual Capital - Creative Impact conference preceding the Informal Competitiveness Council.
The ministerial conference devoted to the creation of European Research Area as well as Thursday’sInformal Competitiveness Council are among the most important events of Poland’s Presidency in the field of science and academic education. Taking part in the meetings organised by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education will beMáire Geoghegan-Quinn, Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, as well as ministers, deputy ministers and experts from EU Member States and associated states.
Panel discussions on the future of European universities, strengthening Europe’s innovation processes and building new opportunities for scientists will be moderated by Professor Sergio Bertolucci, CERN Director for computer research and calculation, Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, Rector of the University in Cambridge, and Ben Verwaayen, Alcatel-Lucent CEO.
‘Thursday’s Informal Competitiveness Councilwill be devoted to work on a future framework programme to finance HORIZON 2020 research. The Polish Presidency’s priority is to simplify the principles of access to scientific-research resources, obliteration of financial and administrative barriers as well as a stronger tie-in between the framework programme of cohesion funds,’ Professor Barbara Kudrycka, Minister of Science and Higher Education, said.
