Discussie over de toekomst van de financiële markten (en)
On July 7-8, 2011, an informal session of the Financial Services Committee (FSC) took place in Warsaw, as part of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The Committee members discussed the FSC agenda for the second half of 2011 and the current trends in the financial markets, as presented by Committee Chairman Michael Elam. Furthermore, the meeting attendants debated the Polish Presidency’s agenda for the financial markets, and the European Commission’s information on the current and future legislative initiatives in this area.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the member states, the European Commission, the European Central Bank, and European Supervisory Authorities: the European Banking Authority, European Securities and Markets Authority, and European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority.
On day two, the session was joined by representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) who presented the Fund’s report on the initiatives to strengthen the financial supervision system (incorporating lessons learned from the reformed supervision framework, operating in the EU as of January 1, 2011), as well as options for the development of a crisis management system.
The Committee members emphasised the need to take further action on the international level regarding the financial markets.
