Traditionally the Brussels headquarters of the Council of the European Union is decorated by the rotating, so the Justus Lipsius building i will get Hungarian decorations in January. The Cultural History Carpet, the musical chair, and the other items of creative design serve not only the purpose of decoration, but also incite the visitor’s activity.
A huge Cultural History Carpet of 202 square metres will be laid in January in the Brussels headquarters of the European Council for the time of the Hungarian Presidency i. Traditionally it is the task of the country acting in the role of the rolling presidency i to decorate the Council’s Justus Lipsius building. The Hungarian designers placed a musical chair in the building playing Liszt’s music - in honour of the Liszt Year in 2011. In the ground floor lobby a Reading Grove will be set up, where the visitor can read the works of Hungarian authors translated into foreign languages. In it there will be a Rubik's cube shaped bookshelf to represent Hungarian innovation, whereas the newly upholstered antique seats will feature the Hungarian tulip motif - which will appear also on the souvenirs (scarves, ties) the visitors coming to Hungary will receive.
The official logo of the Presidency will appear also on the facade of the Justus Lipsius building. The rough weather unusual for Belgium tricked the Hungarian Presidency: the snow accumulated on the top the Consilium building made the lift basket normally operating in front of the facade impossible to use in the end of December, so the stickers with the presidency’s logos could not be placed on the facade in time.
Hungarian buildings will be prettied up as well
For the next half year the Hungarian venues of the presidency will be prettied up as well. Stefánia Palace and the buildings of the Budapest Business School and Congress Centre, places to host events of the Presidency, the Presidency waiting room at the Budapest Airport, as well as the Ethnographic Museum, to host the press centre, got new outside and interior decorations. Once the extra renovations are finished, as a last touch, the Gödöllo Palace will also be adorned in honour of the presidency, and the presidency logo will be placed on the facade of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Rural Development, too.
