Minister Logar presents the priorities of the Slovenian Presidency to the European Economic and Social Committee members
In his role of high representative in relations with the European Parliament, Minister Logar presented the priorities of the Slovenian EU Council Presidency during the plenary session of the European Economic and Social Committee held in July 2021.
“The European Union’s resilience, economic recovery and the Conference on the Future of Europe will be the focus of our Presidency. Only the constructive cooperation of all stakeholders can lead to progress in these areas,” stressed Minister Logar.
During the Presidency, Slovenia will endeavour to strengthen the Union’s resilience to various forms of crises, including the ongoing pandemic. Slovenia’s work will be directed towards the green transition and digital transformation, with particular emphasis on further AI development.
As to the foreign policy priorities, Slovenia will devote most of its attention to the European neighbourhood, particularly to the Western Balkan countries, while keeping the Union’s global role firmly in mind. During the presentation, Minister Logar pointed to EU enlargement as not just one of the policies, but rather a strategic decision aimed at strengthening the security and stability both in the Union and the wider region, drawing particular attention to the EU-Western Balkans summit, which will take place in Slovenia on 6 October 2021.
President of the European Economic and Social Committee Christa Schweng pledged support for Slovenia in attaining the ambitious goals of its Presidency, adding that the priorities are largely harmonised with the work of the European Economic and Social Committee.
