European Cancer Research Summit 2021
The European Cancer Research Summit 2021 is being held under the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union this Monday, 3 May, at 09h00 (Lisbon time), in the main auditorium of the Portuguese Institute of Oncology in Porto. It will be (1) IPO-Porto - YouTube.
The Porto Declaration on Cancer Research will be presented publicly by the Portuguese Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, from 17h00 (Lisbon time) during the summit.
The Porto Declaration on Cancer Research is aimed at reinforcing cancer research in Europe in terms of prevention, diagnosis and treatment, and monitoring of patients, as well as the impact of the treatments on the illness, and is in line with the commitment of the Trio Presidency of the Council of the European Union (Germany, Portugal and Slovenia) to significantly reduce cancer mortality rates by 2030.
This is an important step that will be taken during the European Cancer Research Summit 2021, an opportunity to discuss the importance of the development and reinforcement of research infrastructure in the cancer area, the transfer of the knowledge produced, the clinical trials and the impact of prevention, the results obtained and transatlantic cooperation. It will be an occasion to boost European cooperative research networks and health innovation and affirm Portugal's commitment under the scope of Europe's new Beating Cancer Plan.
Organised by the Porto Comprehensive Cancer Centre (P.CCC), a consortium between the Portuguese Institute of Oncology in Porto and i3S - University of Porto Institute for Research and Innovation in Health, in partnership with the Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education and the Portuguese Ministry of Health, under the scientific leadership of Julio Celis, a researcher in the oncology area, the European Cancer Research Summit 2021 is an international summit that will bring together representatives of European institutions, policymakers, researchers and doctors.
Also attending this conference will be the Portuguese Minister of Health, Marta Temido, the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides i, and the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel i.
