Conference on strengthening the role of the EU in Global Health
On 25 March next, under the scope of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, a conference will be held on reinforcing the role of the European Union in global health.
Over 30 speakers, including leaders, political decision-makers, experts and representatives of European institutions, will be looking at topics such as global health during a pandemic, strategic EU-Africa alliances, particularly regarding access to vaccines, and the promotion of universal health coverage.
The conference, whose opening session will be hosted by the Portuguese Minister for Health, Marta Temido, will be broadcast online at 08h30 (Lisbon time).
Also present will be the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Augusto Santos Silva. There will be recorded messages from Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Portuguese Republic, Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organisation.
The Portuguese Director-General of Health, Graça Freitas, and the Portuguese Deputy Minister for Health, António Lacerda Sales, will be taking part in the closing session.
