“Investing in sustainability means creating wealth, creating qualified jobs and making the economy grow. This shows the relevance of the European Green Deal i and focusing investment on combating climate change, funded by Recovery and Resilience Plans”, the Portuguese Minister for the Environment and Climate Action upheld today during his closing address at the “Climate Change - New Economic Models” conference.

After the speeches from his counterparts from Germany and Slovenia, the Ministers underlined the pioneering role of the Paris Agreement, which preceded the period now marked by the Green Deal, by the proposal for the Climate Law and by the approval and implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plans.

Taking part in the High-Level Conference on “Climate Change - New Economic Models” were 17 specialists and authors who discussed the importance of the new economic models in combating climate change. Economist and professor at University College London, Mariana Mazzucato, was the keynote speaker at the event. Other speakers included Peter Bakker, President and CEO of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Christian Patermann, international specialist in bioeconomics, and writer Mia Couto.
