On 14 December, the foreign ministers from the EU, Latin America and the Caribbean will meet to discuss joint efforts to combat the pandemic, as well as cooperation on shaping the digital transformation, moving towards a sustainable economy, fighting climate change and preserving biodiversity.

The EU and the countries of Latin America share many values and interests: Latin America is one of the world’s most strongly democratic regions. We work side by side with many of these countries to strengthen the international order, including fair and rules-based trade. Enhancing the EU’s relations with Latin America and the Caribbean is a stated goal of Germany’s Presidency of the Council of the EU. In pursuit of this goal, the German Council Presidency has called a virtual meeting of the foreign ministers. Furthermore, a broader civil society discussion will take place digitally in the form of panel discussions. The focus will be on concrete ways to enhance cooperation.
