Irene Tinagli elected as Chair of the Economic and Monetary Affairs committee
Irene Tinagli i (S&D, IT) was elected on Monday as Chair of the Economic and Monetary Affairs committee.
Ms Tinagli, (45 years), was elected by acclamation and replaces Roberto Gualtieri i who left the European Parliament to take up a post of Minister within the Italian government.
Ms Tinagli graduated from the Bocconi University of Milan. She then went on to obtain a Master of Science and a PhD in public policy and administration from the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where she specialized in economic development and innovation. She started her academic career at Carlos III University in Madrid where she taught Management and Organizations until 2013, and has served as a consultant for the United Nation and the European Commission. In 2010 she was appointed Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
In 2013 she was elected to the Italian Parliament with the party “Scelta Civica - Con Monti” (Civic Choice - with Monti) and in 2019 she successfully contested the European elections on the ticket of the party “Partito Democratico” (Democratic Party).
