Declaration by the High Representative on behalf of the EU on the latest events in Venezuela

Met dank overgenomen van Raad van de Europese Unie (Raad) i, gepubliceerd op donderdag 7 maart 2019.

The European Union firmly condemns the fact that the German Ambassador in Caracas is pressed to leave the country and expresses its full solidarity with Germany.

Measures that hamper the diplomatic work only contribute to escalate tensions and undermine a political way out of the crisis.

The EU will continue its work to promote a political, peaceful and democratic solution in Venezuela, including through the International Contact Group. It reiterates its readiness to use all appropriate measures in reacting to current developments.

The Candidate Countries North Macedonia*, Montenegro*, Serbia* and Albania* and the EFTA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, as well as Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, Armenia and Georgia align themselves with this declaration.

*North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Albania continue to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.
