In December 2018, the Board of Agence Française de Developpement (AFD) approved the provision of a guarantee by AFD to GreenCo. This follows the approval of a guarantee by the European Commission in June 2018 through the European Fund for Sustainable Development (EFSD) under the EU External Investment Plan.

“The External Investment Plan is enabling initiatives such as Africa GreenCo to demonstrate how the Plan’s three pillars: Financing, Expertise and Dialogue, work together to achieve greater impacts, mobilise private investment and stimulate market development. We are very pleased that GreenCo forms part of the EFSD guarantee portfolio,” says Marjeta Jager, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development.
