IN DEFENSE OF THE HUNGARIAN SOVEREIGNTY

Ladies and gentlemen,

Tomorrow this parliament will vote on a resolution regarding Hungary.

I want to state clearly that this resolution is a direct attack on democracy in a member state. This attack on Hungary is fundamentally anti-democratic. It seeks to destroy the democratically elected government of a country that holds dear the principles of democracy, of liberty and of European, Christian values.

Victor Orbán and his government have a clear understanding of the enemies of the open society. They are fighting them. The open, democratic society will always be threatened by supporters of totalitarian ideologies. The most threatening ideologies known to civilisation are socialism and Islam. Both are responsible for hundreds of millions of deaths. Both are responsible for the creation of violent, suppressing regimes.

With this vicious attack on Hungary, the EU shows its true, ugly face. It is the face of socialism as we know it from Germany, Russia, China, Cambodia, Cuba and North Korea. It is an EU that suppresses, censors, threatens and blackmails.

As Jean-Claude Juncker once said: “There can be no democratic choice against the EU.”

The tricks the socialists, or liberals as they sometimes call themselves, are trying to play with the voting on the Sargentini report, once again clearly shows their anti-democratic nature. To anyone with a true democratic heart, their proposal to count abstentions as absentees is nothing less than repulsive.

The use of article 7 is in itself anti-democratic as it takes away the voting rights of a member state.

These people confirm the words of late Pope Pius XI, who already pointed out that socialism is imminent evil.

We are witnessing a charade. The report criticized Hungary on domains that are excluded from EU competences. The report deals with outdated issues. The report contradicts the findings of the European Commission.

This witch-hunt is a disgrace for the European Union. It should stop.

We, therefore, rejoice in the strong ties that are now built between Italy, Hungary and the other Visegrad countries. I understand the despair of the socialists and liberals. Their project to build a new socialist empire is failing. The EU is falling apart. The patriotic movement is on the rise. It will completely change the composition of this parliament after the next elections. So they are running out of time.
