Copyright rules for the digital market:

Met dank overgenomen van Europees Parlement (EP) i, gepubliceerd op woensdag 4 juli 2018.

All MEPs will be called to vote on the negotiation mandate proposed by the Legal Affairs committee to hammer out digital copyright rules. The vote will be on Thursday at noon.

According to the European Parliament’s rules of procedure, at least 76 MEPs (10%) are needed to object to opening of negotiations with the Council without first seeking plenary approval. By the deadline of midnight on Tuesday, enough MEPs had in fact lodged their objection.

If Thursday’s vote confirms the mandate as adopted at committee level, negotiations between the European Parliament and the Council will be able to begin at any time. If on the other hand the vote does not confirm the mandate, the substance of the legal act will be debated and voted upon during the plenary session of September.

At 10 a.m. on Wednesday the rapporteur, Axel Voss (EPP, DE) will hold a press conference which you can follow here.
