Angola’s President João Lourenço to address the European Parliament

The President of Angola, João Lourenço, will address MEPs in a formal sitting today from 12.00 to 12.30.

Mr João Lourenço and the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, will have a bilateral meeting at 11.35 and hold a press point at 11.50, in front of the protocol room (Louise Weiss building, room H060).

Angola currently chairs the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence and Security.

Angola's partnership with the EU i is based on the ACP-EU Cotonou Partnership Agreement. Negotiations to renew this agreement, which expires in February 2020, are due to begin in August 2018.

Mr Lourenço succeeded former President José Eduardo dos Santos, who had ruled Angola for 38 years, on 26 September 2017.
