Mogherini to brief MEPs on Syria, Russia and North Korea

MEPs will debate recent developments in Syria, take stock of the situation in Russia and Korea with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini i on Tuesday at 16.00.

MEPs are worried by the Syrian regime’s offensive against rebel-held Eastern Ghouta, including the alleged use of chemical weapons. They blame the Assad regime, Russia and Iran for the heinous crimes committed in Syria. MEPs are also to debate the targeted US, French and UK airstrikes on chemical weapons facilities in Syria.

EU-Russia relations, human rights and the situation of the rule of law in Russia and its alleged involvement in the Salisbury attack against a former Russian intelligence officer and his daughter will most likely lead the MEPs’ debate on Russia.

The plenary will also debate the EU’s role in facilitating peace talks on the Korean Peninsula, to be addressed at the inter-Korean summit later this month and to be followed up by a North Korean and US summit in May.
