European experts discussed healthy nutrition for children
On February 6, 2018 a Conference of the Bulgarian Presidency will be held under the title "Healthy Future for Europe: A Healthy Child Nutrition".
A healthy and educated young generation is a basic prerequisite for the sustainable development and prosperity of every nation and the whole of the EU. The conference is linked to the horizontal priority of the Bulgarian Presidency for young people as an investment in the future of Europe.
The event is part of the calendar of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Health. Experts from the EU Health and Agriculture member states will discuss the opportunities for active policies to tackle the growth of chronic diseases, with a focus on prevention. The focus of the discussions will be healthy food and food for children. The link between nutrition and health, the impact of food on children's development, healthy eating habits as a key health determinant, food marketing regulation practices for children are just some of the topics to be debated by experts at European and world level. The role of traditional diets as well as the prospects for a "healthier" future Common Agricultural Policy, responsive to the needs of affordable, healthy food, will also be discussed. The conference will provide an opportunity for exchange of good practices and successful policies at national, European and world level and will guide the discussions ahead of the Council of Ministers.
The event demonstrates the need for joint efforts of the health and agriculture sectors, united by the common cause of promoting healthy nutrition among children and consumption of proven healthy traditional food products. The event will be opened jointly by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Ombudsman and the European Commission. Lecturers include representatives of the World Health Organization, the European Commission's Directorates-General for Health and Food Safety and Agriculture, scientists and nutrition and nutrition experts at national, European and international level.
