The Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union opens with a concert at BOZAR
The official opening of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will be with a concert at the BOZAR - Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels on 1st February (Thursday). The solemn ceremony in Sofia which marked the start of the presidency was on 11 January at the Ivan Vazov National Theatre.
The Bulgarian president Rumen Radev, the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, the Minister of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union Liliana Pavlova and the Minister of Culture Boil Banov will be present at the opening in Brussels.
The guests will be representatives of the diplomatic corps and the leading institutions in Brussels, foreign and Bulgarian cultural figures and admirers of Bulgarian art. The Chief Executive Officer of BOZAR Paul Dujardin will give a special welcoming address to them.
The Festive Concert at the „Henry le Boeuf Theatre” Hall will begin at 20.00 o ‘clock. The program combines major works both from the Bulgarian classics and folklore and the European music. They will be performed by the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Nayden Todorov, the Vanya Moneva Choir conducted by Vanya Moneva and with the special participation of the soprano Sonya Yovcheva and the pianist Lyudmil Angelov.
The guests will hear Veselin Stoyanov’s ‘Overture’, Alexander Tekeliev’s ‘Roots’, four arias from Verdi’s iconic operas, one of the most beautiful concerts for piano and orchestra among the European classics - Piano Concerto No.2, Op. 21 by Chopin and the Bulgarian folk songs ‘Polegnala e Todora’ and ‘Bre, Petrunko’.
The BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts is the most prestigious art center in Brussels. It was founded after World War I and occupies an area of 33,000 square meters. Its Concert Hall with its 2,200 seats is a home to the National Orchestra of Belgium and it is one of the most famous music halls in the world.
