EU Directors General express full support for Bulgarian Presidency priorities during informal meeting in Sofia
The Bulgarian Presidency presented its priorities during an informal EU Directors General meeting on 22 and 23 January 2018 in Sofia. Delegates from the EU Member States, the European Commission, the General Secretariat of the Council and the candidate countries participated in the meeting.
The delegations expressed their full support of the Presidency priorities and willingness to work together closely in order to achieve visible results and added value for European citizens, even on the most difficult of dossiers such as migration, security, defence and the social dimension of EU policy. The delegates from the candidate countries applauded the Bulgarian Presidency’s efforts to put the Western Balkans back on the EU agenda.
Delegates also held a comprehensive debate on the concrete deliverables needed to maintain and improve the EU’s unity and cohesion as a necessary prerequisite for a more effective Union which works for the benefit of all EU citizens.
During the first day of the EU Directors General visit a special seminar was held, analysing specific trends in the behaviour of the Member States in the EU decision-making process. The delegations took part in a discussion led by the heads of the Sofia and Berlin offices of the European Council on Foreign Relations.
