MEPs will discuss the EU risk assessment of the herbicide glyphosatein the light of the so-called “Monsanto Papers” with experts in a public hearing on Wednesday.

WHERE: József Antall building (JAN), room 2Q2

WHEN: Wednesday 11 October, from 9.00 to 12.30

MEPs from the Environment and Agriculture committees will discuss the glyphosate assessment with, inter alia, representatives of the European Food Safety Authority, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, and EU and U.S. NGOs. The aim is to learn lessons on the transparency and use of scientific studies in pesticide risk assessments.

Glyphosate is the most commonly used herbicide in the EU, but concerns have been raised over whether it is carcinogenic. Its authorisation in the EU is due to expire by the end of the year. The European Commission has proposed a 10-year renewal.
