Constitutional affairs MEPs to discuss Brexit negotiations with Guy Verhofstadt

EP Brexit coordinator Guy Verhofstadt i will debrief Constitutional Affairs i MEPs on recent developments related to the UK’s withdrawal from the EU on Monday.

Mr. Verhofstadt (ALDE, BE) is expected to give a comprehensive account of the latest developments and the progress made in the Brexit negotiations between EU and UK government officials, notably on citizens' rights.The opening of the talks took place on 19 June 2017, followed by a second round of negotiations in July and a third round last week.

This week, Parliament’s Brexit Steering Group, chaired by Guy Verhofstadt, will also assess the UK position paper on Northern Ireland and Ireland, as well as other separation issues. The European Parliament has already laid out its key principles and conditions for approving the UK's withdrawal agreement. Any such agreement at the end of UK-EU negotiations will need to win the approval of a majority of MEPs.
