Thursday 29 – Friday 30 June: the College travels to Tallinn for the kick-off of the Estonian Presidency of the Council
The news:
On 29 and 30 June, the College of Commissioners is travelling to Tallinn for its traditional visit to the incoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which in the second semester of 2017 will be held by Estonia.
President Juncker and the College Members will engage in discussions with the Estonian Government on the challenges and priorities for the EU in the upcoming six months. The meetings will be held in four clusters, on external relations, security, migration and justice; on energy and climate policy, transport and rural development; on growth, competitiveness, internal market, digital single market and trade; and on the EU budget, the Economic and Monetary Union and the social agenda. The Commission will also meet with the chairmen of the factions and committees of the Estonian Parliament.
The background:
Twice a year, the College of Commissioners travels to the Member State that holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU, in order to discuss the EU's priorities of the next six-month period with the Member State's government. From 1 July 2017, Estonia will hold the Presidency of the Council of the EU for the first time, as a part of the forthcoming presidency trio together with Bulgaria (January-June 2018) and Austria (July-December 2018).
