The EU’s role in global development goals - MEPs meet UN special advocates

‘SDG Advocates’, assisting the UN in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals, will discuss EU actions with MEPS from development and environment committees on Wednesday.

The event will be opened by Parliament President Antonio Tajani i and Co-Chair of the SDG Advocates Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway. Speakers include Nobel Peace Prize laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus, the founder of micro credit, and Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever.

SDG Advocates meet in Brussels on the occasion of the European Development Days. Launched in January 2016 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the SDG advocates consist of 17 eminent people helping the UN Secretary-General to promote the Sustainable Development Goals that world leaders adopted in September 2015. Over half of global development aid comes from the EU and its members, making them collectively the world's largest aid donor.
