As preparatory foreign visits of the presidency, Prime Minister Ratas will visit Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Romania
Today, Prime Minister Jüri Ratas i will begin the series of preparatory foreign visits of the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which commences in July. During 22-24 May, the Prime Minister will visit Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Romania.
It is customary, the Prime Minister says, of the head of government of the country holding the presidency to visit as many member states as possible prior to the term in order to introduce their country’s priorities during the presidency and discuss possibilities for increased cooperation.
“Visiting member states before the presidency is a great opportunity to introduce to our colleagues the priorities of our presidency, but also to hear the expectations and thoughts of other countries for the following half-year. Topics of key importance to Estonia and to the country being visited will be discussed,” Ratas said.
On Monday, 22 May, the Prime Minister will stay at Bratislava where he will meet the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico i. In the second half of the day, the Prime Minister will proceed to Budapest where he will meet with the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán i.
On Tuesday, 23 May, the Prime Minister will head to Prague to meet with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Bohuslav Sobotka i. Next, the Prime Minister will proceed to Ljubljana in order to meet with the Prime Minister of Slovenia, Miro Cerar i.
On Wednesday, 24 May, Ratas will be in Bukarest to meet with the Prime Minister of Romania, Sorin Grindeanu, and the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis.
After each meeting, the Prime Minister will give a press conference together with the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Romania.
The Prime Minister will return to Estonia on Wednesday afternoon.
