Prime Minister Ratas spoke with the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, about cooperation during the Estonian EU Council Presidency
Prime Minister Jüri Ratas i met with the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk i, in Brussels to discuss schedule of work for the second half of 2017, forthcoming summits, and EU Council i meetings.
“The President of the European Council i and I discussed, besides the issues to be addressed and the planned events for the Estonian Presidency i of the Council of the EU, expectations for the Estonian Presidency and closer cooperation between Estonia and the European Council,” Prime Minister Jüri Ratas said.
Speaking about the scheduled work for the second half of 2017, the Prime Minister stressed that while discussions on the future of the European Union continue, there are also a number of other pressing matters for discussion.
“The European Council has issued a number of guidelines that affect people’s everyday lives and wellbeing. One of these seeks to broaden the opportunities offered through the digital single market by 2018 at the latest. The Estonian Presidency needs to ensure that these intentions are translated into action.”
Additionally, the Goverment of the Republic held a cabinet meeting today in Brussels, endorsing the Presidency programme, which is focused on four priorities. The Government also met with the European Commission and the ministers presented the plans and priorities for their respective areas of focus.
