Migration: Concrete progress on Partnership Framework

Met dank overgenomen van Europese Commissie (EC) i, gepubliceerd op woensdag 14 december 2016.

The Commission's second report on the EU i's new Partnership Framework on migration with third countries shows concrete progress with the five priority countries, Ethiopia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal.

Ahead of the European Council meeting of 15 December, the Commission's second report shows that the EU's partnerships with the five priority countries, Ethiopia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal have been deepened and further developed.

Concrete progress has been made, including missions at political and technical level, stepped up financial assistance and first decreases in migratory flows.

In parallel, 1165 mobility actions under the Erasmus+ framework have been financed with the priority countries to strengthen legal and regular migration channels.

European Migration Liaison Officers will be deployed to all five priority countries in early 2017.

This demonstrates that the European Union is moving from a crisis mode to a more structured management of migration.

Building on these first results, the full potential of the Partnership Framework will be further exploited in the next months.
