Migration and security in Europe were discussed during official talks between the Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and the French President Francois Hollande

Malta and France agreed

that these issues need

to be addressed and

prioritised during the

Maltese Presidency.

In the first of a series of meetings taking place in various capitals, expected by every Member State as part of the European Presidency, the Prime Minister Joseph Muscat met with the French President Francois Hollande where he reiterated what Malta’s priorities will be while at the helm of the Council of the European Union next January.

While in France, one of the most influential countries of the European Union, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and President Hollande dealt with important challenges such as migration and security in Europe. The discussions delved into the situation in the Mediterranean, the problematic state of affairs in Libya and Syria, as well as Turkey's future. Malta and France agreed that these issues need to be addressed and prioritised during the Maltese Presidency.

After Paris, Dr Muscat will visit Ireland, where he will meet Prime Minister Enda Kenny, in an other occasion for Malta to emphasise its Presidency priorities and discuss Brexit which is undoubtedly a very sensitive subject for the Irish as well as the single market.

The series of meetings to be held in the coming days will follow those held previously, where the Prime Minister will continue to engage in discussions with other European leaders on the central points of the European Agenda during the first six months of next year, a number of which are common themes to many, while others are of specific importance to different countries.
