Slovak Presidency ensured the EU is the trigger of the Paris Agreement

Thanks to the fast action taken by the Slovak Presidency, the second threshold of 55% of the global emissions has been surpassed which allows the Paris Agreement to enter into force in 30 days.
Slovakia has today promptly reacted and made an important step. It has technically deposited on behalf of the EU and Slovakia the ratification instruments into the UN's Secretary-General depositary in New York.

The technical step that took place today will culminate with an official ceremony in the UN headquarters in New York where the Slovak Minister of Environment László Sólymos will deposit official ratification instruments on behalf of the EU together with the EU Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete i and other EU ministers who have finished the national ratification processes of the Paris Agreement.
