Tuesday 12 - Wednesday 13 July: EU-China Summit in Beijing

The news:

On Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 July, European Commission President Juncker i and European Council President Tusk i will represent the EU i at the 18th bilateral Summit between the European Union and China, in Beijing. High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini i, Vice-President Katainen i and Commissioner Malmström i will also participate. Main topics on the Summit agenda are: bilateral EU-China political and economic relations, addressing global challenges, and regional and international issues.

The background:

Having established official diplomatic ties in 1975, the EU and China build on a broad-based framework of bilateral relations. Under the umbrella of the annual EU-China Summit, EU-China relations today encompass over sixty substantive and sectorial dialogues. The EU-China 2020 Agenda for Cooperation, adopted in 2013, is the highest-level joint document in EU-China relations, setting out cooperation in the areas of peace, prosperity, sustainable development and people-to-people exchanges. The new Joint Communication on elements for a new EU strategy on China, adopted by the High Representative and the European Commission on 22 June 2016, sets out additional building blocks for EU-China cooperation, providing opportunities for creating jobs and growth in the EU, and supporting China's own economic reform programme.

12-13 July 2016: Participation of Presidents Juncker and Tusk, High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini, Vice-President Katainen and Commissioner Malmström in the 18th bilateral EU-China summit in Beijing.
