ViEUws and B2 go behind the scene of European diplomacy. Nicolas Gros-Verheyde, Editor-in-Chief of Bruxelles2, analyses the main issues discussed during the Foreign Affairs Council on Monday 23 May 2016.

During the meeting of EU’s Foreign Affairs ministers, chaired by HR/VP Federica Mogherini, the Council adopted conclusions on the EU regional strategy for Syria and Iraq as well as the Da’esh threat, unveiling its priorities to restore peace, stability and security in the region. Over lunch, Ministers discussed the EU global strategy that will define EU’s foreign and security policy future axles and how the EU will tackle their challenges and define its different strategic partnerships. Finally, an extension of the mandate of EUNAVFOR MED Operation Sophia was agreed, and two additional supporting tasks added: the training of the Libyan Coastguards and Navy and the implementation of the UN arms embargo on the high seas off the coast of Libya. Nicolas Gros-Verheyde has the story.
