Agriculture market situation

The Commission informed the Council about the latest developments in those agriculture sectors that are currently facing particular difficulties such as the pig meat, dairy and fruit and vegetables sectors.

Ministers were also briefed by the Commission on progress in the implementation of the market support measures for these sectors that were agreed on 14 March.

The Council took note of a Commission presentation on the possible use of the European Fund for Strategic Investments to help respond to the request for financial support in the agriculture sector.

Background brief

Fisheries: data collection and conservention of fishery resources

The Council took note of the progress achieved on a draft regulation aimed at improving and simplifying the existing framework for the collection, management and use of data in the fisheries sector.

The Council took also note of a presentation by the Commission on a draft regulation aimed at improving the conservation of fishery resources and the protection of marine ecosystems through technical measures. This new proposal is based on simplification, modernisation of the decision-making process and strengthening the long-term approach to conservation and resource management, including through tackling the discards problem, regionalisation, further stakeholder involvement and increased industry responsibility.
