Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) between the EU and Kosovo enters into force

Federica Mogherini met in Brussels on Monday (4 April) President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga, who leaves office at the end of the week after 5 year mandate.

They looked at the progress in EU-Kosovo relations over this period, including the entry into force of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement on 1 April 2016.

The High Representative and the President also spoke about the current political situation in Kosovo and the importance of functioning institutions.

They agreed on the importance of the dialogue for normalisation of relations with Belgrade, facilitated by the EU, in particular the implementation of existing agreements for the benefit of the people.

Finally, they highlighted the need for strong cooperation between the EU and the wider region in facing common challenges, such as economic development and security situation, including countering radicalisation.
