Moldovans to elect president for first time since 1997

Moldova's parliament announced Friday it will hold a popular election on 30 October to determine the country's president, reported Reuters. Moldova's constitutional court had ruled in March that the parliament's indirect election of the president was unconstitutional. Petru Lucinschi (1997-2001) was the last directly elected president.
