Mogherini on illegal annexation of Crimea by Russian Federation
Today the High Representative, Mogherini i, released a declaration on behalf of all EU i Member States on the illegal annexation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol by the Russian Federation. Two years ago, Russia illegally annexed the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, a gross violation of international law and of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The EU remains committed to fully implementing its non-recognition policy, including through restrictive measures and sanctions. A full explanation of the EU's non-recognition policy for Crimea and Sevastopol can be found here
The EU is deeply concerned at the military build-up on the Crimean peninsula and the deteriorating human rights situation, particularly that of freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, religion and belief. The full declaration can be read here.
