Étienne Schneider: 'The Extraordinary Council must produce concrete results and decide on tangible measures'
The Deputy Prime Minister for Internal Security, Étienne Schneider, will chair the extraordinary session of the Justice and Home Affairs Council (JHA) in Brussels on 20 November 2015. In cooperation with the French authorities, the Luxembourg Presidency convened the meeting to discuss and decide on the European response to the Paris attacks.
Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament, agencies such as Europol, Frontex or Eurojust, as well as leading figures in Interpol, will participate in the extraordinary meeting, bringing together EU Ministers for Justice, the Interior and Home Security. The joint meeting will focus primarily on the European system for passenger name records (PNR), arms trafficking, strengthening external EU border controls and the fight against financing terrorism.
Prior to the Extraordinary Council, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Internal Security, Étienne Schneider stated: 'This meeting must produce concrete results and decide on tangible measures. More than ever, the European Union must show its capacity for action and demonstrate credibility, without passing the buck between the Commission, the Parliament and the Council'.
