Étienne Schneider meets the president of the European Parliament Martin Schulz in order to discuss a European response to the Paris attacks

The deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Security Étienne Schneider has met in Brussels, on 17 November 2015, the president of the European iParliament Martin Schulz i.
Following the terrorist attacks carried out in Paris on 13 November, and in view to strengthening the European response, the aim of this meeting was to ensure a greater involvement of the European Parliament in the future decisions to be taken on measures on security and in the domain of the fight against terrorism.
In this context, the president of the European Parliament and Minister Schneider discussed the state of play of the negotiation on the proposal for a directive on the use of Passenger Name Record (PNR) data for the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of terrorist offences and serious crime. The trilogues between the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament have been initiated after the vote of the negotiation mandate by the European Parliament in July 2015, and are currently being pursued at a very active pace.
Martin Schulz has confirmed his strong support to the Luxembourg Presidency which aims to conclude the negotiations by the end of the year, in accordance with the programme of the Luxembourg Presidency. The President of the European Parliament has expressed his strong political will to achieve significant results on this file.
PNR constitutes a valuable tool in the domain of security policy allowing the European Union to quickly achieve concrete results and has been endorsed by the heads of state or government on the occasion of the European Council, which took place on 30 August 2014.
