The European steel industry is the focus of the Extraordinary Competitiveness Council in Brussels
The Luxembourg Presidency has called an extraordinary meeting of the Competitiveness Council i to respond to the deepening crisis currently affecting the European steel industry, which has led to a series of plant closures and job losses across the European Union. Chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider, this meeting will be held in Brussels on 9 November 2015. Economy Ministers will review the situation and examine the measures needed to restore the industry's competitiveness.
In order to inform the debate, Étienne Schneider has invited several decision-makers from European steel companies, who will present the industry's viewpoint. In particular, Robrecht Himpe, President of the European Confederation of Iron and Steel Industries (EUROFER) and the Director of ArcelorMittal, Karl-Ulrich Köhler, CEO of Tata Steel Europe, Andreas J. Goss, CEO of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe, Francesc Rubiralta-Rubio, CEO of the CELSA group and Mario Caldonazzo, CEO of Arvedi Tubi Acciaio.
