Lukashenko retains power in Belarus

Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus' authoritarian leader since 1994, says he received 83.5 percent of the votes in Sunday's election, which saw opposition candidates banned or boycotting the poll. On Saturday, 500 protesters showed up at an anti-Lukashenko rally, far less than the 5,000 the organisers had hoped for.
