European Commission's new top manager takes office

Dutch official, Alexander Italianer, took office on Tuesday as the European Commission’s new secretary general, the highest administrative position in the Commission. He replaces Ireland's Catherine Day, who has held the post for the past 10 years. Italianer previously headed up the European Commission’s directorate-general for competition.
