Kyrgyzstan joins Russian-led Eurasian Union

Kyrgyzstan officially joined the Eurasian Economic Union on Wednesday (12 August). It is the fourth country to join the bloc created by Russia as a competitor to the EU, after Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Armenia. President Almazbek Atambayev said he hoped his "country will reach the income level of [his] neighbours."
