Janis A. Emmanouilidis - the European Policy Centre’s leading expert on EU politics - joins Lénaïc Vaudin d’Imécourt for post-summit analysis, following the European Council meeting on 25-26 June.

On Saturday 27 June, Greek Prime minister Alexis Tsipras i took the decision to submit bailout proposals by its creditors to a referendum vote. Whether it yields a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ vote, the referendum will have catastrophic consequences for both sides, warns Emmanouilidis: it is a risky gamble that could cause irrevocable economic, political and geopolitical damage. He says: European leaders, aware of the cost of a potential Grexit, might still be prepared to compromise. He also touches on controversial measures to redistribute 40 000 asylum seekers across 23 member states.
