EU heads of State and government came together in Brussels on 25-26 June. Their discussions focused on migration and the future of the EU’s foreign, security and defence policies.

"Only few months ago we came here with the priority of saving lives. We have done a lot when it comes to our external action", stated the High Representative for the Unions Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini i, speaking in Brussels. "We have done important work when it comes to saving lives at sea and when it comes to cooperation with countries of origin, countries of transit. And also with the launch of the operation against the smugglers”, she added.

Leaders also discussed the future of security, foreign and defence policy, stressing the link between their internal and external dimensions.

High Representative Federica Mogherini presented her assessment of the global situation and made the case for an EU global strategy to guide the Union’s external action in an increasingly connected, contested and complex environment, in view of the EU global strategy she will submit to the EU leaders by June 2016.
