Meeting of the High Level Group on Education and Training
The first event marking the start of the 2015 Luxembourg Presidency brought together the EU High Level Group on Education and Training in Luxembourg-Kirchberg from 18 to 19 June 2015.
At the centre of the discussions was education as a pre-requisite for the promotion of social inclusion, through the creation of new jobs and encouraging the active participation of all citizens within society.
Participants from the 28 Member States expressed their views on the future priorities of European cooperation in education and training. Marc Hansen, Secretary of State for Higher Education and Research, assured the senior EU officials of Luxembourg's interest in addressing significant challenges such as implementing targeted actions to ensure access to quality education for all children.
Luxembourg intends to maintain this commitment by ensuring that more account is taken of the diversity of young people, in particular linguistic diversity. As part of the mid-term review of the EU 'Education and Training 2020' strategic framework, the meeting addressed future priorities and the work necessary to facilitate their implementation. The meeting also focused on identifying new sources of funding for innovation in education, as well as adequate follow-up to the Declaration on promoting citizenship and the common values of freedom, tolerance and non-discrimination through education.
