The post-2015 agenda for development and migration was discussed when EU High Representative Federica Mogherini i met with development ministers from all European Union countries on Tuesday 26 May in Brussels.

Post-2015 development agenda

Ministers debated financing development in the context of the negotiations towards the new agenda. The Council adopted conclusions setting out the EU position for the next conference in July and for the UN summit on the post-2015 development agenda in September. This is the international community’s next step in development following the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Speaking after the meeting Mrs Mogherini said: "What we agreed today is a solid basis for a EU action and leadership in the upcoming negotiation process. It is a clear sign of the EU's commitment to poverty eradication and global sustainable development." The Council also renewed the commitment to achieve the 0.7% ODA/GNI target.

Migration

Ministers also discussed the inter-related issues of migration and development, as a follow-up to the special European Council of 23 April. The EU's comprehensive approach includes working on the root causes of irregular migration. The EU is committed to enhancing work on the links between migration and development while continuing to address human rights abuses and conflict resolution.
