Jennifer Baker is joined by EPP Group spokesperson Antti Timmonen to discuss the EU’s response to the on-going migration crisis in the Mediterranean Sea.

Settling migrants is “a responsibility that has to be borne by everybody in the EU, not only those Member States that are bordering the Mediterranean Sea” argues Timmonen, who’s group advocates binding quotas based on demographic and economic criteria for Member States to accept migrants. The EPP group is also interested in exploring possible military operations against smugglers, as well as ensuring that existing asylum measures are effectively implemented. The Commission’s proposals are due in May.
