Spring of Optimism - European Edition

23 April 2015, 9.30 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The aim of the European edition of the "Spring of Optimism" event to be held on 23 April is to talk about a Europe that works, a Europe that we want to build by bringing together its citizens, political decision-makers, economists, philosophers, writers and entrepreneurs.

The movement, launched in France by Thierry Saussez in 2014, whose last event was held in Paris on 21 March, is supported in Brussels by the European Economic and Social Committee and the League of Optimists of the Kingdom of Belgium. The event will mix debates (round tables) and workshops (optimistic bookshop, personal development sessions) in order to help participants mobilise positive energy, confidence, as well as personal and collective well-being.

On the programme for the press:

  • A workshop intended specifically for journalists on Other ways of talking about Europe, moderated by Quentin Dickinson, Head of the Brussels office of Radio France and Radio France Internationale (10.30 a.m. - 12 noon, Room JDE 60)
  • Opportunities to interview young secondary school students aged 16-17 who have come from all the EU Member States for the 6th Your Europe, your say!" event to make their voices heard in the EU decision-making process and to learn about the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI)
  • A major debate on The optimistic Europe we want to build with Henri Malosse, President of the European Economic and Social Committee, Didier Reynders, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and European Affairs, Jonathan Michael Hill, Head of Cabinet of the Commissioner responsible for Education, Culture, Youth and Citizenship, and Luc Simonet, President of the League of Optimists of the Kingdom of Belgium — Programme with full list of speakers (4 p.m. - 6 p.m., Room JDE 62)
