Jennifer Baker is joined by Richard More O’Ferrall, spokesperson for the Greens Group in the European Parliament, to discuss the prospects for the Environment Council that will take place in Brussels on Friday 6 March.
Last week the European Commission set out the EU’s vision for the new global climate change agreement due to be agreed in Paris in December. The Greens consider this road map insufficient, warning that scholars have been adamant that we need to “limit the increase in global temperatures to below 2 degrees.” They deplore the blasé approach and lack of ambition from the Commission, highlighted by suggestions from Commissioner Cañete that failing to reach the 2 degree target “wouldn’t be so bad.”
