Lénaïc Vaudin d’Imécourt is joined by Utta Tuttlies, spokesperson for the S&D Group, to discuss how the European Union can halt the deadly crossings of the Mediterranean, in context of the new Lampedusa boat tragedy that cost more than 300 lives last week.

The current EU-led border surveillance operation Triton has proved to be “ ineffective and ill-equipped to deal with humanitarian challenges”, the S&D Group spokesperson stresses. Tutlies underlines the importance of implementing one common EU migration policy, including a European resettlement system with quotas for each Member State.
