Statement by President Martin Schulz on the terrorist attacks in Copenhagen

Met dank overgenomen van Voorzitter Europees Parlement (EP-voorzitter) i, gepubliceerd op maandag 16 februari 2015.

Over the weekend, Copenhagen, free speech and the Jewish community were subjected to a heinous and cowardly attack which strikes at the core of what makes us European: diversity, tolerance and freedom.

In the name of the European Parliament I convey my condolences to the Danish nation and the family of the victims and the injured.

The attacks will only help strengthen our resolve to protect our fundamental values against the assaults of a small minority of radicalised people, acting in the name of their fanatic beliefs. Our society and its fundamental values will not be changed.
